Begin Your Walk…The First Steps In Your Walk Of Faith
“In the beginning…” – No two people begin their walk of faith at the same point. Some individuals start as children, having gone to church for as long as they can remember. Learning about God is as natural as eating and sleeping, and their church is their second home. If you fall into that category, thank your parents, and consider yourself blessed. For those of us with different backgrounds, the journey can be much more difficult.
As you begin your walk, your most important resource will naturally be the bible…the divinely inspired Word of God. I suggest starting with the NIV (New International Version) which is a very accurate translation and much easier to understand than the more traditional King James Version. I also recommend that you buy a “life application” style of bible, since the footnotes and other information which supports the basic text makes it much easier to understand the verses you read.
The best way to continue in your walk is to join a local church, attend services and become involved. To find your church home, try attending services at several different local churches. This will allow you to experience each church’s style of worship while also helping you become more comfortable in a church environment. You should find the church to be inviting and friendly…a place where you can feel safe and loved.
There are many other resources which can help you become more knowledgeable and provide a better understanding of the bible. Radio and television ministries, books by pastors and theologians, and organizations which promote the christian message abound. All of these resources can help you in your walk of faith.
Your walk of faith will continue throughout your life, and you will find that the more you read, listen and study, the further you will advance in your journey.
