Tranquility and beauty abound, but challenges and frustrations are also to be expected when you own a home or cabin along the Mississippi River.
Our family has owned property along one Missouri river or another since the mid-1950’s. In the mid-1970’s, we rented our first cabin along the Mississippi, and in 1986 my parents purchased a small lot and cabin…we’ve been here ever since.
Some people wonder why we’ve stayed here after the floods of 1993, 2003 and 2008…at times I wonder myself. Then I’ll sit on the dock on a beautiful spring day, watching the river flow beneath me while the sun creates millions of sparkling diamonds along the surface of the water…and I can’t imagine being anywhere else.
In my lifetime, I’ve found that you either are…or… are not…a “water baby”. Water babies are attracted to fountains, pools, creeks, rivers, lakes, oceans and anything liquid that sparkles in the sun. We can pass hours near a body of water doing nothing but enjoying the beauty that God has created. If you’re not a water baby, you’ll probably never understand the attraction.
In this part of the Midwest, very few water babies are privileged to have homes on or by the water. Most of us desperately seek weekend cabins and water getaways anywhere we can find them.
God has blessed us with just such a getaway cabin along the Mississippi, and we are extremely grateful. In gratitude, we would like to share some of our experiences…good and not-so-good…while owning property along the Mississippi.
We also hope to provide resources and support which might help those who wish to experience a personal relationship with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, but don’t quite know how to go about it. We would be honored to help you along your way.
